Mobile Recording
My equipment is in a portable rack: a rackmount PC with Lightpipe sound card and a small LCD monitor, mic preamps, digital converters, and a small mixer for monitoring and extra inputs. I set up my rack where I'm out of the way, and I run a multi-channel snake to the stage. I set up 10 or 12 of my own mics, and I tap the PA mics with a transformer-isolated splitter (to avoid hum or signal loss). The multi-track recording is mixed at my small studio, using a powerful Nuendo system with dual CPU's, UAD-1 cards, and SCSI drives.
I can record 24 tracks at 44.1 kHz, or 18 tracks at 96 khz.
This is a one-man operation; I keep it simple and get by without an assistant.
